How We LEAD:
The Privacy Counsel is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the Company’s global privacy program and data security strategy. This role ensures compliance with relevant privacy laws, regulations, and standards, develops, and maintains privacy policies and procedures, oversees privacy monitoring and auditing activities, and provides pragmatic business counseling on data usage and compliance issues. The Privacy Counsel will supervise and assure worldwide compliance with data and privacy laws in a risk-based manner that supports business growth and expansion, drawing on expertise in government/industry requirements and best practices.
How You’ll CREATE:

Strategize, lead, and ensure compliance with privacy laws and standards, including but not limited to GDPR and US state and federal regulations.

Investigate privacy incidents and breaches, ensuring appropriate legal notifications when required, and timely and effective resolution.

Lead privacy audits, assessments, and reviews across the enterprise.

Manage and review third party contracts, products and services for privacy activities, risks, and compliance.

Keep abreast of evolving privacy laws and initiatives that may affect Company strategy and services at a global level and communicate effectively with key stakeholders, including c-suite and other leaders.

Work hands-on with business and technology teams to support implementation of privacy risk management and compliance.

Structure, draft, review, and help negotiate data protection terms in a variety of commercial agreements including master service agreements, DPAs and data provider agreements.

Facilitate discussion and collaboration among product leaders and privacy stakeholders across the company.

Continually improve policies, processes, and controls to ensure global consistency but with a locally relevant approach.
Bring Your VIBE:

10+ years of experience at a top tier law firm, in house legal department, consulting firm or in house privacy team with CIPP certification strongly preferred.

Juris Doctor required. Either California bar admission or the ability to register as in-house counsel in California.

Deep experience with U.S. federal and state privacy laws, GDPR and a working knowledge of other international data protection laws.

Experience building and growing global privacy programs.

Strong collaborative leadership skills with an ability to view privacy issues in the context of business objectives, effectively coordinating and maintaining string relationships with cross-functional partners.

Excellent business judgment and ability to assess legal risk while also thinking strategically and providing practical real-world advice.

Strong work ethic and ability to multi-task and understand and manage shifting priorities and multiple projects.

Exceptional communication, analytical and drafting skills.
