We’re looking for an Observability focussed Site Reliability Engineer to be part of our Engineering Excellence team.

Our Mission: Increase efficiency and agility across engineering teams enabling them to mobilise quickly and deliver quality, secure, right first-time features for our customers at reduced costs.

Enable operations teams to pro-actively monitor and quickly report across critical systems.

Site Reliability Engineer reports into the Engineering Manager and contributes to the delivery of our mission through a combination of design, build & implementation activity together with working alongside multiple engineering teams across the department, supporting them to adopt new ways of working. The role will involve strong collaboration with others – be it learning from examples of existing great engineering work, collaborating with others to create it or mentoring engineers to use it.

This role will initially focus almost exclusively on development in New Relic, configuration and support, and over time evolve to include the wider goals of the team.

Your Role

  • Design, build, and evolve core features of New Relic’s observability platform (APM, logs, traces, infrastructure monitoring) for high throughput and scalability
  • Configure New Relic dashboards, alerts, synthetic monitoring, distributed tracing, and log management
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product, SRE, UX) to translate requirements into resilient, cost-effective observability solutions
  • Implement observability-as-code: define dashboards, alerts, synthetic monitors, notification channels & tags using New Relic
  • Integrate instrumentation standards like OpenTelemetry across distributed systems
  • Actively mentor Associate engineers, and lead incident response and analysis
  • Work with stakeholders to understand problems, analyse requirements, develop ideas and design & deliver solutions that enhance engineering productivity
  • Design, implement, and maintain modern DevOps processes and tools to ensure seamless CI/CD pipelines for our engineering teams
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to establish and promote best practices in code quality, unit testing, observability and deployment
  • Deliver initiatives to improve system observability, incident response processes and operational efficiency
  • Provide training and documentation to engineering and support teams on using observability tools effectively
  • Continuously improve monitoring coverage, reduce alert fatigue, and enhance system resilience
  • Provide observability configurations, Blueprints, processes, and standards for enterprise-wide usage

What You’ll Need

  • Highly creative, pro-active, enthusiastic, conscientious, detail-oriented self-starter
  • Hands-on experience in New Relic (APM, Alerts, Traces, Events and Logs setup including Customisation)
  • Familiarity with Drop rules, NRQL within New Relic GraphiQL explorer
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Proficiency with tools such as Terraform for managing and provisioning infrastructure
  • Extensive experience in DevOps practices: Expertise in automation, CI/CD pipelines, and containerisation
  • Strong coding abilities: Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g. Python, Go, JavaScript) and scripting languages (e.g. Terraform, PowerShell, Bash)
  • Cloud platform knowledge: Deep familiarity with Azure cloud platforms including deployment, scaling and optimisation practices
  • Expertise in monitoring and alerting tools like Azure Monitor and Azure App Insights
  • Highly resilient, employing a relentless can-do attitude in the face of adversity
  • Able to present complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Able to identify and manage risks through to resolution
  • Be an advocate for strategy and work with different teams to implement
  • Able to demonstrate creativity and innovation in applying solutions for the benefit of the customer/stakeholder
  • Excellent collaboration, mentoring and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills: Ability to troubleshoot complex systems, identify bottlenecks, and implement robust solutions
