We are currently recruiting for a Senior Materials Testing Technician to join our friendly team at Mountsorrel Quarry, Quorn, near to Loughborough in Leicestershire. This role is commutable from Quorn, Loughborough, Leicester, Melton Mowbray, Coalville, Shepshed, Syston, Glenfield, Ibstock, Sileby, Kegworth, Nottingham, Derby, Grantham, Matlock, Tunstead, Derby, Dene, Ashbourne, Oakham, Bardon Hill and the surrounding areas.

The role of Senior Materials Testing Technician will report directly to the Area Technical Manager.  You will conduct testing and also provide supporting guidance of matters to the Materials Testing Technicians to ensure their objectives and targets are achieved leading to the successful overall delivery of all works.  The requirement for this role is to work both in our laboratory and also daily on to our sites to obtain samples which is an essential aspect of the role. You will be responsible for (not exhaustive):

  • Possess good communications skills and will be able to liaise with stakeholders of varying seniority levels, from technician through to senior operations management
  • You will be required to have a strong understanding of civil engineering materials, materials testing and site construction operations
  • You will work closely with the Area Technical Manager, Technical Coordinator, Material Technicians and the onsite operational teams
  • You will be responsible for site testing, checking results, carrying out deep dive investigations into complaints, and providing technical information to clients and colleagues
  • Manage, organise and undertake technical testing to ensure test regimes and workload are met, comply with Company systems and that the team also meet with these standards
  • Lead investigations; and resolve quality issues, advise operations and Site Teams of results and suggesting actions for improvement 
  • Management of test procedures, ensuring testing procedures from the team are fully documented, understood and communicated to comply with company standards
  • Management of the sampling and testing procedures in line with contract requirements utilising in-house company Schedule and external 3rd party accredited testhouses where required
  • Ensure your and the teams work is carried out in line with company procedures and in a safe manner whilst maintaining a safe and accredited testing environment and have the correct equipment available in calibration
  • Strong knowledge of on-site Health and Safety policies and procedures

A vehicle is provided with this role and the position will involve travel to our other sites in the Midlands region

This role is primarily Monday to Friday, we do require 24/7 support in our operations flexibility to support night shift and weekend working will be rostered on rotation to meet with production – OT is available

The successful applicant in the role of Senior Materials Testing Technician will be instrumental in the future development and support our Technical and Operational Teams.

Senior Materials Technician – Qualifications/Requirements/Capabilities:

  • NVQ – level 3 – Technician or similar relevant in-house certification would be highly beneficial, a role related degree would prove a distinct advantage
  • Working knowledge of Readymix / RMX / Asphalt / Aggregates
  • Strong knowledge of testing schedule maintenance and UKAS compliance and technical requirements
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant Standards and their application i.e. MCHW, BS.

ESSENTIAL – Full UK car driving licence with no more than 6 points as you will have a company vehicle for this role in visiting other sites for business use
