The Role
This role sits at the heart of the Global Rights & Society Relations team, combining neighbouring rights expertise with modern analytics to support the department’s core objective of maximising revenue for UMG’s labels and artists.
The Neighbouring Rights Business Analyst will deliver high-quality analysis, insights and recommendations across revenue assurance, performance tracking and business planning. The role will focus on identifying revenue opportunities through the interrogation of complex datasets, including revenue statements and usage data, and translating findings into clear, actionable outcomes for the business.
Alongside this, the role will take ownership of key data structures and reporting solutions, ensuring data is accurate, accessible and effectively used across the team. The individual will work closely with Finance, Operations, Business Development and other stakeholders, acting as a trusted partner in supporting decision-making, forecasting and strategic initiatives.

Key duties and responsibilities
Analysis, insights and revenue optimisation

Analyse neighbouring rights revenue statements alongside usage and airplay data to identify trends, discrepancies and opportunities for revenue recovery

Investigate performance questions, identifying what has changed and why, and clearly communicate findings and recommended actions

Support and enhance the neighbouring rights revenue assurance programme, including identification and tracking of missing revenues across labels and performers

Deliver structured analysis to support forecasting, benchmarking and performance evaluation across territories, societies and catalogues

Provide analytical support for business development activities, including evaluation of prospective deals and new opportunities

Provide support for royalty processing and ongoing enhancement of data for both internal and external reporting
Data ownership and reporting

In collaboration with Global Technology and other Business Analysts, design and maintain scalable data ecosystems (including BigQuery) that enable low-touch, reusable datasets and support cross-functional use across other UMG departments

Design, build and maintain dashboards, scorecards and recurring reports to support self-service analytics across the GRSR team

Translate business requirements into robust data models and reporting solutions

Ensure clear documentation of data definitions, methodologies and processes to support consistency and efficiency

Continuously identify opportunities to improve data quality, automate processes and reduce manual reporting
Stakeholder partnership and communication

Partner with Finance, Operations, Business Development and wider stakeholders to ensure insights are clearly understood and effectively applied

Translate complex data into clear, concise and visually compelling outputs tailored to different audiences

Support the preparation of materials for client reviews, business updates and territory engagements

Contribute to regular reporting cycles, business reviews and ad hoc analysis with clear takeaways and recommendations

Work with technical and data teams to identify and resolve data issues, providing clear evidence and proposed solutions
Data development and innovation

Support the ongoing development of data capabilities within GRSR, contributing to improved analytical frameworks and reporting standards

Explore new datasets and analytical approaches to enhance understanding of neighbouring rights performance and market dynamics

Contribute to broader data initiatives, including collaboration with central data teams to leverage new tools and technologies

Where relevant, support research and analytical work that informs music performance insights and business development strategy
Person specification
Skills and experience

Strong analytical capability, with the ability to translate business questions into structured analysis and actionable recommendations

Proven experience working with data in an analytics, finance, BI or similar environment (typically 3-5 years); experience in music royalties or Neighbouring Rights is advantageous

Proficiency in Excel (including data manipulation, pivot tables and modelling)

Proficiency with SQL and data warehouse environments such as Google Big Query
-
Proficiency working with large datasets and building dashboards using tools such as Looker, Tableau, Domo or similar
-
Ability to validate data, identify anomalies and conduct root-cause analysis
Communication and stakeholder skills

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and effectively

Ability to tailor outputs and messaging to different audiences, from technical teams to senior stakeholders

Confident working cross-functionally and building effective working relationships
