Highway and Transport – Enhancing Lives, Building Communities

Are you ready to shape the future of local roads and transport? We’re looking for an experienced Highway Development Control Engineer to help us plan and implement transport infrastructure that supports sustainable development and aligns with our Local Transport Policy.

This position offers a unique opportunity to grow professionally, enhancing your project management, negotiation and public communication skills while working in a dynamic environment.

As a Level 3 Highway Development Control Engineer, you’ll assess how new developments impact roads, public transport, cycling and walking, ensuring that our community’s needs are met. Using your excellent communication skills you will provide highway representations on a wide range of planning applications, working closely with planning officers, legal teams and developers to find solutions that balance everyone’s interests. Your role will also involve making sure that transport infrastructure is built to high standards and properly maintained through the instruction and overseeing of Section 38 and Section 278 Agreements including examining drawings for technical approval purposes.

Strong communication and negotiation skills are key, as you’ll be engaging with local representatives and the public to address transport issues including attendance at planning committees on highway matters when necessary. With at least three years of experience in highway/traffic engineering, transport assessment or town planning, you’ll bring valuable expertise to the table. A relevant degree and membership in a professional body like ICE, IHT, IHIE, CILT, or RTPI are important or alternatively it will be necessary to show evidence of relevant experience at a similar level to this role.

This is a great opportunity to grow your career, develop your skills, and make a real impact on your community. If you’re ready to help us build a sustainable future, apply today!
