Global Financial Reporting Manager – London, N1C 4AG, United Kingdom

The Global Financial Reporting team is responsible for: the consolidation of the global operating company results, review of the financial reporting of the operating companies, integration of business combinations, communicating the results to the external market and providing analysis and presentations on group financial reporting to management. The team also closely supports the UMG CFO and UMG Board, and provides assistance to the Heads of Finance in the operating companies globally.

The Role

As a Global Financial Reporting manager, you will report into the VP, Global Finance Reporting.  The role will focus on the preparation, analysis, review and presentation of the Group Management accounts to senior management. The manager will also play a critical role in the management of the month-end timetable and related processes, providing assistance of a technical accounting nature to operating companies across the Group, implementation and monitoring of control environment improvements and maintenance of a Key Transaction register to support all material group reporting positions.

Fulfilling these key responsibilities will require managing a team of Global Reporting Analysts and liaising closely with the External Reporting team, treasury function, FP&A analysis team and senior management.

Responsibilities:

  • Analysis, review and presentation of the Group Management Accounts to be shared with key senior management.

  • Managing team of Global Reporting Analysts through coordination of workloads, priority setting and review of tasks to ensure compliance, accuracy, integrity and timeliness of Group reporting. Provide training and support on financial reporting areas for the team.

  • Management of month-end Group consolidation, Group level analysis and review processes, including consolidation entries and central adjustments.

  • Support of forecast and plan cycles throughout the year, which includes Group level analysis and timeliness of reporting.

  • Control owner over key/non-key monthly management controls, ensuring these are performed and signed off on a timely basis.

  • Development, review, implementation and monitoring of financial controls and control environment on a continuous basis.

  • Maintenance of Key Transaction register as support for all material transactions and material positions.

  • Advising on technical accounting matters where they arise, for example within Business Combinations, Music Catalogue activity or IFRS16 (among others).

  • Support of internal chart of accounts and related consolidation system integration with other key business finance systems.

  • Providing support to teams from different territories on consolidation and technical questions.

  • Communicating with the wider team on month-end consolidation process and insights that affect the wider team.

  • Assist with the audit process for the Group.

  • Provide additional off-cycle support to VP , Global Financial Reporting and SVP, Global Financial Reporting and Analysis.

  • Maintenance of KPIs for financial reporting.

  • Implementing and developing continued improvements across the reporting team.

Skills and Experience Required

Must Have

  • A relevant qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with experience in financial controls and accounting, either from within business or as an auditor.

  • Prior experience managing multiple processes reporting cycles in a Global Finance Reporting role.

  • Prior experience managing a team in a Global Finance Reporting role.

  • Experience in financial reporting requirements, specifically IFRS.

  • Technical IFRS knowledge (IFRS 16, IFRS 3, IAS 38 among others).

  • Ability to manage and coach junior team members and provide support to colleagues at all levels including training where necessary.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form to explain/present results.

  • Strong planning and organisational skills, with ability to manage own workload in a pressurised environment and work to tight deadlines.

  • Ability to apply knowledge from previous global experiences and share knowledge and insight.

  • Ability to build and sustain strong relationships with colleagues and lead firmwide teams of mixed grades and experience.

  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to develop strong relationships with colleagues from the different territories within Universal Music.

  • Excellent analytical skills and experience building excel spreadsheets up to macro level.

  • Interest in music with an enthusiasm to work within the industry.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of HFM products would be advantageous.
