We are currently looking for an experienced Finance Manager – Statutory Accounts & Tax to join our large friendly team based in Birmingham. Although the role is based at our Solihull Head Office, we are currently employing a flexible, hybrid working model (2 days per week in the office).

Finance Manager – Statutory Accounts & Tax is a key member of the Finance Team. You will play a lead role in delivering Tarmac’s external reporting timetable, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of external reporting. Managing and developing a multi-skilled team of 6, you will provide accounting technical expertise and guidance to the team and partner with key business stakeholders, building strong working relationships, in order to deliver the statutory accounts and indirect tax reporting programmes. This role involves working closely with wider group finance, business unit finance and the Corporate Tax team.  You will be supported from a project management perspective by another key member of the Finance team who will project manage the statutory accounts programme and work closely with you and the team to manage the timeline, internal review process and audit process.

• Lead the team, including line manager responsibility and ensuring team is set up for success, coaching and developing the team and celebrating achievements.

• Support the team from a technical accounting perspective, with support from the General Accounting Manager.

• Prepare and review high quality working files and accounts for Tarmac’s statutory entities.

• Review tax submissions and ensure the accurate submission on a timely basis of all indirect tax items within the teams’ remit including VAT, Aggs Levy, Landfill tax and CIS.

• Partner with business unit finance teams and key business stakeholders.

• Be the key point of contact for external auditors.

• Identify and implement continuous improvement and simplification opportunities.

Ideally the Finance Manager – Statutory Accounts & Tax will be:

A fully qualified Accountant ( ACA/ACCA/CIMA ) with previous similar experience essential in dealing with complex statutory accounts and managing a small team. This would be an ideal opportunity for a first move out of practice for someone from an audit background.

  • Up to date know ledge of accounting standards (IFRS, UK GAAP).
  • Experience of dealing with external audit, and able to apply that to the Tarmac business.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of preparing and reviewing sets of accounts and all disclosures including corporate governance/reporting.
  • Strong working knowledge of indirect taxes.
  • Able to deal with large quantities of complex data – excel skills essential.
  • Strong working knowledge of internal controls and audit requirements.
  • Effective stakeholder management.
  • Proven track record of working to tight timelines and critical deliverables.
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to work collaboratively.
