Overview
Civil Team Lead – Bristol, UK
A career that will deliver change. Together, we’ll help Britain achieve Net Zero.
Aztec West, Bristol (hybrid working – 3 days minimum per week office- based)
Are you ready to lead the future of civil engineering in nuclear energy? As Civil Team Lead at EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E), you’ll be at the heart of a high-performing team, driving excellence across major infrastructure projects. This is your opportunity to shape the next generation of low-carbon energy while mentoring engineers and solving complex technical challenges.
The Opportunity
EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is tasked with delivering the design for several nuclear island (NI) buildings, systems, and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C EPR Project. This involves working through an integrated team, supporting HPC construction and commissioning efforts, and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C Project. As a result, a Technical Directorate is being established to oversee the engineering disciplines and technical expertise needed to successfully deliver these projects through EPR-E’s integrated teams.
As Civil Team Lead, you’ll manage a team of engineers working across HPC and SZC projects. You’ll oversee technical processes, ensure consistency and quality, and foster a culture of safety and inclusion. Your leadership will be key in mentoring talent, resolving engineering challenges, and driving continuous improvement across the civil discipline.

What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll lead the daily operations of a civil engineering team, ensuring that project schedules are met and workloads are balanced. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, you’ll maintain high standards across design activities and ensure alignment with engineering processes and safety protocols.
Your role will involve reviewing technical documentation, integrating lessons learned, and identifying risks and opportunities for improvement. You’ll collaborate with the Civil Transverse Discipline Group Lead to develop team competencies and uphold nuclear safety standards.
As a mentor and technical guide, you’ll support junior engineers, contribute to training modules, and help shape best practice documentation. You’ll champion innovation and continuous learning, helping to build a resilient and forward-thinking engineering culture.
Who You Are
You’re an expert senior civil engineer with a strong background in reinforced concrete design and team leadership.
You’re confident working with civil engineering codes (ideally for the nuclear sector) and structural analysis software, and you understand the complexities of seismic design and safety-class structures. Your communication and leadership skills enable you to thrive in multidisciplinary and multicultural environments.
Experience with HPC and SZC design reviews, BIM tools, and chartered status with a relevant institution are highly desirable. If you speak French, that’s a bonus—but not essential.
Applications close for this role on (Wednesday 29th October), with interviews following shortly after.
