Civil & Structural Engineer (Water) – Manchester
Job Description

This is an exciting new role for a Civil & Structural Engineer to join our growing team of 140+ Civil & Structural Engineers and Designers. Our Water department covers a range of projects from Concept Studies through to Detailed Design provide a variety of interesting work.

Working in a multi-disciplinary team delivering projects in the Water Sector, you will be responsible for delivering key elements of design work on projects including 3D design, calculations, scope of works, specifications and similar in a multi-discipline environment.

You will have responsibility for managing resources, prioritising / sequencing work, supporting others and driving design delivery progress.

This is a hybrid role with office attendance circa 3 days per week in Manchester along with occasionally required for site visits, design reviews and client meetings, within our clients’ offices.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Production and checking of tendering and design deliverables, aligned with your technical discipline, to meet project needs and client requirements.
  • Engaging / leading technical reviews, meetings and presentations to support scope delivery.
  • Completion of work packages to cost, time and quality needs, managing change and other resources / people as required to achieve this.
  • Support to others in the project team and wider Costain to ensure project and corporate outcomes are achieved, in particular Costain sustainability targets.
  • Collaborate and ensure learning is shared, proactively challenge / celebrate safety performance
  • Collaborate with suppliers, other designers, construction team and similar to produce a robust and safe design output

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Essentials

  • Proven post graduate experience within the UK water industry at all stages of the project lifecycle.
  • Good knowledge of design working practices and installation requirements of the discipline across a range of industries.
  • Knowledge of UK legislation and standards.
  • Awareness of risk identification, quantification, management and of HSE requirements.
  • Eligibility to obtain UK Security Clearance, UK Citizen or 5 years UK residence
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Desirable

  • Experience of water industry standards and processes.
  • Experience in working with multidiscipline teams and supporting more junior engineers.
  • Knowledge and experience of common forms of contracts
  • Career development aspiration

Qualifications

Essential

  • Minimum BEng Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Working towards Chartership or Incorporation with ICE or IStructE.
  • CSCS or CCNSG
