King’s Estates & Facilities (E&F) manages a diverse estate of more than 70 buildings across five central London campuses. The directorate ensures the effective operation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the university estate, providing the environments that support world-leading teaching, research and student life.
With over 1,000 staff, E&F is the largest Professional Services directorate at King’s College London and plays a vital role in delivering the university’s Strategy 2030 while maintaining, enhancing and futureproofing the estate.
This role sits within the King’s Sustainability team, which leads the delivery of King’s Sustainability Strategy 2026-2030 and supports the university’s journey towards Net Zero. The Senior Carbon Reduction Officer will contribute to the management and continuous improvement of energy, water and carbon data, providing the reporting, analysis and insight needed to support operational decision-making, performance monitoring and carbon reduction across the university estate.
About the role:
The Senior Carbon Reduction Officer will play a key role in supporting King’s College London’s Net Zero ambitions through the effective management, analysis and reporting of energy, water and carbon data.
The postholder will manage and improve the quality of utility and carbon data, develop reporting and analytical tools, and provide evidence-based insights to support operational decision-making, carbon reduction activity and institutional reporting. The role will lead the coordination of agreed meter exchange projects, support the effective operation of utility metering systems, and contribute to the continual improvement of the university’s ISO 50001 Energy Management System and its integration with ISO 14001. The role will also help improve operational performance and promote energy and water efficient behaviours across King’s community.
Reporting to Senior Energy and Carbon Manager, working closely with Carbon Reduction Manager, Senior Utilities Officer and colleagues across Estates & Facilities and Sustainability, the postholder will provide data, analysis and operational expertise to support the implementation of Sustainability Strategy 2026–2030. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly analytical sustainability professional with strong data management and reporting skills to contribute directly to King’s sustainability and carbon reduction objectives while working as part of a collaborative team committed to delivering meaningful and lasting sustainability outcomes.
This is a full-time post and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
About you:
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- Qualification in a relevant topic: a relevant academic degree or vocational qualification in sustainability, energy management or equivalent.
- Data & Reporting Skills: Experience of managing, validating and analysing energy, water, fuel, carbon or comparable operational datasets, with the ability to resolve data-quality issues and produce clear, accurate reports and insights for different purposes. Strong attention to details.
- Project Coordination & Time Management: Experience coordinating suppliers, contractors, multiple teams or workstreams, with the ability to plan activities, monitor progress, manage competing priorities and deliver agreed tasks on time.
- Communication & Stakeholder Engagement: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly and build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Financial and Administrative Processes: Experience supporting procurement or financial administration, such as purchase orders, invoice processing, expenditure monitoring or supplier onboarding.
- Experience using data management software, for example, Systemslink Energy Manager or a comparable system.
- Proficiency in MS applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Power BI.
Desirable criteria
- Membership of, or progress towards membership of, an appropriate professional body.
- Experience working in a higher education or large, complex organisations.
- Experience of certificated energy management system and/or environmental management system (e.g. ISO 50001/ISO 14001).

- How have your qualifications and previous experience prepared you for a role involving energy and sustainability data management? Please include an example of using software such as Systemslink or similar platforms, MS Excel/Power BI, and any procurement or financial administration activities you have supported.
