About the Role
We are looking for reliable, hardworking and friendly General Porter to join our Portering Team at Wycombe Hospital.
As a General Porter, you will play an important role in supporting the smooth running of the hospital. You will work across different areas of the site, helping patients, visitors and hospital staff while ensuring essential items and equipment are transported safely and efficiently.
This is a varied role where no two days are the same. You will be part of a busy team and will need to be flexible and able to work a range of shifts, including early starts, late finishes, night shifts, weekends and bank holidays.
Main Duties
Patient Transfers
- Safely transport patients using beds, wheelchairs and trolleys.
- Move patients between wards, departments, theatres and diagnostic areas.
- Provide a professional, respectful and compassionate service to patients.
Logistics and Deliveries
- Transport medical records, laboratory specimens, blood products and pharmacy items.
- Deliver equipment, supplies and other essential items around the hospital.
- Collect and deliver mail and other internal items.
Waste and Linen
- Collect and transport domestic and clinical waste.
- Handle used linen and other waste streams in accordance with hospital procedures.
- Ensure waste and linen are transported safely and appropriately.
Medical Gases
- Transport medical gas cylinders, including oxygen, to the required departments.
- Follow all relevant safety procedures when handling and moving medical gases.
General Support
- Move furniture, equipment and other heavy items when required.
- Assist departments with general portering and support duties.
- Support emergency procedures, including fire and major incident arrangements.
- Respond to requests from wards and departments in a professional and timely manner.

- Committed to providing a high standard of customer service.
Previous Experience
Previous hospital portering, healthcare, logistics or customer service experience would be an advantage, but full training will be provided to the right candidate.
