Employment Law Adviser

Permanent

Full Time (34.5 hours, Monday-Sunday)

Salary Range: £23,500-30,500 FTE (salary offer will be based on skills, knowledge and experience demonstrated)

About us

Our advisers provide an invaluable service for people living with and affected by cancer who have employment enquiries and issues. With a growing number of people seeking our help, we are looking for a new team member to join us!

In this role, you will join our Work Support Team, using your employment knowledge and communication skills to provide up-to-date and accurate information and guidance. You will provide a wide range of personalised advice from employment rights and disability discrimination to addressing practical work issues, in line with relevant legislation. You will also make appropriate referrals to other Macmilllan services, and to a partner organisation for legal advice and assistance when necessary.

You must be able to handle complex communication in a professional and supportive way, providing holistic support while maintaining appropriate boundaries. You will be comfortable using your initiative and working independently when required, but also be able to collaborate with the rest of the team. Additionally, you will work closely with the other Macmillan teams, building strong relationships and raising the profile of the service we provide.

Please note all candidates are subject to a criminal record check for this role. This cost will be covered by Macmillan and all enhancements must be declared prior to the check.

About you:

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • At least 1 year of advising on employment-related issues
  • Good understanding of employment practices, procedures, and legislation
  • Contact centre, telephony, or face-to-face experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • An understanding of the needs of people living with and affected by cancer, especially in relation to work issues
  • Experience using the Microsoft Office suite of applications

As this is a home-based role you will also need:

  • A reliable broadband connection with upload and download speeds of at least 3mbps.
  • To comply with strict data protection rules you must have a private confidential space to work from.

We will provide all IT equipment needed for the role.

Working Hours

You will work an average of 34.5 hours per week on a shift system basis. For service operation purposes you will be contracted to work 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including weekends, evenings, and Bank holidays on a rotational shift between the hours of 08:00 – 20:15.
