C&I Engineer

You will be based at our Gloucester office in the Gloucester Business Park or our Glasgow office at the Atlantic Quay depending on your geographical location.
Nuclear Generation’s Design Authority unit is responsible for ensuring our generating and defuelling stations are operated safely by demonstrating that the risk to the public and workers is kept as low as reasonably practicable. We achieve this by working with Station based colleagues to maintain the integrity of the design of the plant and the manner in which it is operated.

Pay, Benefits and Culture
We’re offering a salary of £54,391 – £71,779 apply with our terms and conditions covered by the EDF Company Agreement. The starting salary for the appointment will be dependent on your existing salary, competence, experiences and qualification.

What you’ll be doing
As a DA Engineer you’ll work within a team of multi-disciplined team of engineers supporting our generating and defuelling stations. We are looking for someone capable of understanding the role that our control and protection systems play in maintaining safety, and using modern international standards to substantiate that equipment is fit for purpose.
You’ll gain opportunities to develop your expertise in a wide range of systems and processes and demonstrate our systems comply with nuclear safety requirements, whilst meeting business targets for generating and defuelling stations (ie dispatch of spent nuclear fuel to Sellafield). Skills gained are relevant to future opportunities in the new nuclear build program.
As our next C&I Engineer, you will also;
• Provide technical oversight and acceptance of control and protection systems throughout all phases of the development lifecycle
• Support work in relation to equipment qualifications in compliance with company procedures, standards and guidelines for C&I systems
• Work with Station System Engineers to optimise reliability and availability of the process
• Lead work in relation to Safety Case maintenance and updates due to changing demands in generation or defuelling
• Act as an EDF responsible person for review of safety cases as well as other technical submissions produced by contract partners
• Advise on the resolution of technical and regulatory issues
• Attend technical meetings with Station based engineers and partners, and contributes to decision making
• Provide input to, and approval of, non-conformances and design changes
Who you are
We’re looking for you to hold a relevant HNC or equivalent in an Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Physics or a similar technical discipline, and to have some experience within control, instrumentation and protection system technology and architecture.
If you also have proven experience in justifying C&I systems in a highly regulated environment including an understanding of the principles of component and system qualifications would be advantageous.
You’ll have experience in the systematic design lifecycle of an I&C system; including specification, design, assessment and commissioning and maintenance of safety or process critical I&C Systems to name a few.
