Category Manager –  Proteins

We are looking for a commercially driven Category Manager with experience in the food industry to join our Food Category Development Team to manage our Proteins Category. This role plays an integral part in the development of the category and ultimately the overall success of Foodbuy.

This is a highly strategic category with the largest managed spend in our portfolio over £100m (and growing)!

It is a new role within our Food Category Team giving you the opportunity to shape, develop and deliver a short, medium long-term category strategy. With support from your buyers (c3) you will direct all procurement and supplier management strategies across Meat & Poultry, Fish & Seafood and Meat Free categories.

Your primary responsibility is to deliver our overarching Foodbuy Strategy, drive volume growth, negotiate sustainable commercial terms & provide value and benefit to Compass and External clients. Energise, lead, inspire and develop a successful category team.You will be key to implementing our animal welfare & global CSR commitments.You will lead & support planning, negotiating and executing contract renewals as well as managing supplier relationships.You will engage, inspire & collaborate with our culinary teams & development chefs and support their client food philosophies.

Key responsibilities for this opportunity include: 

  • Planning, executing and leading the strategy for the category 
  • Working with and building strong relationships with Suppliers 
  • Working with a fair and open minded approach
  • Prioritising daily workload with project work appropriately 
  • Driving the category forwards 
  • Having a deep understanding on the importance of the category 
  • Ensuring that product quality is maintained whilse getting the best price for products 
  • Managing expectations of various stakeholders and suppliers 
  • Already operating as a Category, Sourcing or Sales Manager looking to develop and progress your career at a more strategic level or looking to use your expertise and experience to shape and define this newly created role
  • Experience in meat and poultry and or fish procurement/sourcing is essential
  • Results Oriented – comfortable delivering against bold and stretching targets
  • Can be recognised as a subject matter expert
  • Competent with procurement systems, ideally having used these in current/previous employment
  • Demonstrated ability to develop credible business relationships
  • Passion for animal welfare
  • Experience of influencing and negotiating with teams at all levels
