About the role

Sensory Support Team 0-25yrs Cambridgeshire

British Sign Language Tutor- 37hrs per week 52 weeks 0.6FTE (ie 22hrs per week plus holiday entitlement)

This is an amazing new opportunity to help create a role that has never existed in our team before!

For the first time ever, the Sensory Support Team in Cambridgeshire will have a BSL tutor as part of our Team.

If you are a native BSL user, understand Deaf culture and can inspire others with a passion and the skills to use BSL this job could be for you.

The successful candidate will help to design and create our BSL offer going forward so you need to be aspirational, good with details and willing to take responsibility.

The role will include delivering BSL to adults, children and young people. Flexible working hours will be necessary to support family signing sessions.

What the people in our Team say about their roles:

“The best thing about my job is that I get to work alongside a child or young person and help them learn new skills and become independent. When I am successful, I get to see a child move on and flourish because they no longer need that support and it feels amazing.

“This is my third year working as part of the Sensory Support Team and I can honestly say that no two days are the same – in fact often no two hours are the same! It is a fulfilling, challenging and very rewarding role and the Sensory Support Team are fabulous and incredibly welcoming.”

“I love working here. I walk in and it just makes me smile.”

If you feel passionate about the possibilities this role can offer, then we want to hear from you. For an informal discussion or to find out more, please contact Sibel Djemal on 07880 053496 or sibel.djemal@cambridgeshire.gov.uk

As part of the interview process you will be asked to deliver an 8-minute presentation on your ideas for how we can deliver BSL to families, children and other professionals.

Your new salary will be on the NJC Grade 6 (£27,344 – £29,439 FTE April 2022) pro rata to 0.6FTE. Your holiday entitlement will depend on years of government service.
