About the role
The Attendance Service sits within the Education Directorate, overseeing multiple functions, such as elective home education, children missing in education and irregular school attendance.Â
Attendance Improvement Officer acts as Authorised Officers for the County Council in fulfilling the Local Authority’s statutory duties and responsibilities for school attendance.
The Attendance Service provides a virtual service level offer to all schools, the post will be based at Noble House, Ely. Hybrid working arrangements can be discussed. Unfortunately due to levels of demand we are unable to accommodate job shares or requests to amend to term time only.Â

About you
Applicant to possess A Levels/Level 3 or equivalent.
Applicant must be able to demonstrable their understanding of the educational landscape and apply this within the remit of the role. Possessing knowledge of factors that prevent parents ensuring regular school attendance e.g., medical needs, mental health, housing issues etc. Understanding the statutory functions and how schools and LA deliver this.
The Attendance service is virtual; therefore, applicant must be able to work independently and as a team member, with flexibility to manage competing pressures and demands. Possessing strong resilience working with conflicting priorities in a challenging and fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and the ability to manage relationships with external stakeholders and internal services.
Due to the complex nature of attendance, applicant must possess strong, effective verbal and written communication. With the ability to communicate, training and provide guidance concerning legislation and processes in a concise manner. This is to ensure that colleagues and external partners have a clear understanding of the information that is being shared.
This position covers a wide scope of duties and skills. A full training package will be available to the successful candidate with support from five experienced Attendance Improvement Officers already in post.
